RUBENS

A detail of the 17th century paper theatre, based on the works of two artists, Peter Paul Rubens and Jacques Callot.
It measures about 250 x 250mm (10 x 10″) by 35mm deep
only TWO have been made.
The scenery is a set of lino-block prints (in different colours) and the figures (being about 50mm tall) are all dry-point prints
They are all painted with watercolour
There is also an edition of 5 D.I.Y. kits of un-cut,un-painted sheets. (see below)

From the painting titled’ The Temple of Janus’ (in the Hermitage, St Petersburg)
Supposedly a design for a temporary structure in Antwerp in 1634, to celebrate the Joyous Entry of Ferdinand of Austria, the new Governor of the Spanish Netherlands.

Jacques Callot 1592-1635.

Characters are all taken from the hundreds of drawings and prints from this prolific recorder of everyday life.

An A4 size folder containing the printed but un-cut and un-painted sheets (with some helpful hints) for the 17th century paper ‘Rubens’ theatre
There are 3 sheets of lino-block scenery and several dry-point (intaglio) sheets of over 60 performers and audience, being my re-working of Jacques Callot.
